I’m Juan Carlos Rivera. I teach ethics, humanism and lasalliam topics in La Salle University, Bogotá, Colombia. I firmly believe in the power and the effects that education can have on individuals and I believe in the potential of the students. I believe that educators today have great challenges; among them: we have to accept that we do not possess the truth, and that it can and should be seek with others, including students. Afore the accelerated changes that occur today, in all fields, I see that it is necessary and useful to work in order to transform our institutions in places where you learn to learn, where it is taught to think critically and globally, where we can analyze and study the problems in a comprehensive and complex manner, and where we seek answers that contribute to the transformation of society. When we recognize that the paradigm of “having” leads us to assume selfish and perverse relations, when the professions loses its meaning and goals, when the choices taken unknowns the other, as a human being and as a brother, my feelings affect the reason and I think that I must strive to overcome this reality that is leading us to ruin. Activities I regularly do: I love cinema, and I see many films specially dealing with the social issue. In addition, I enjoy music of all kinds, which I select depending on my mood. I practice cycling, tennis and squash. I also walk together with my wife, recognizing that this is a wonderful opportunity for making exercise and also to share dreams, ideas and projects. I accompanied several research projects in different universities, so I can get in touch with science, students and the reality.
