I´m Carlos Coelho and I am Director of International Relations at Unilasalle, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and IALU's Executive Director. Before arriving here at the university in 2007, I studied both Law and Economics before going to Sweden for my Master’s Studies in International Relations, followed by a PhD in Political Science. Right now, I devote my time to La Salle Rio de Janeiro as well as to the law firm of Coutinho & Coelho. I have always studied at a Lasallian school until I left for higher education studies. At that time, La Salle University in Rio de Janeiro did not exist. As such, I am not only a witness but a firm believer in the work of the Christian Brothers here in Brazil and abroad. I think it was this belief that led me to partner with Dr. Bob Vogel at La Salle Philadelphia for several joint projects. It started when we hosted a group of students and professors from Philadelphia here in Rio de Janeiro and ever since we’ve had Brazilian and American students and professors together every year in places like Morocco, Cuba, Turkey, Israel, Palestine and Argentina. In addition to that I was able to travel with students to China, USA, Colombia and Mexico. After a few years doing joint travel study programs, Bob and I teamed up with La Salle universities in Beauvais, Manila, Barcelona, Mexico City, Bogota, for the first edition of the Summer Leadership Program, which was held in Beauvais. In the following years, I could see the inclusion of many other Lasallian Universities from different countries.
